# About the Quality-Safety Connection

The Quality-Safety Connection eliminates the manual communication and data transfer associated with relaying Product Quality Complaint (PQC) information between Safety and Quality Vaults and _Adverse Event_ information between Quality and Safety Vaults and minimizes the potential for missed Quality complaint data and investigations, which can lead to a more compliant operation.

## Transferring PQCs from Safety to Quality

With the Quality-Safety Connection, Vault supports the automatic transfer of PQCs from your Safety Vault to your Quality Vault for the _Complaint Intake_ process. After an _Case Adverse Event_ in your Safety Vault has been identified as a potential PQC via the _Potential PQC_ field on the _Case_, Safety Vault users can run the _Transfer PQCs to Quality_ action on the _Case_ to transfer the identified PQC, along with all relevant patient and product information, via this connection and initiate the _Complaint Intake_ process in their Quality Vault.

Vault will create a _Complaint Intake_ record in your Quality Vault via the PQC identified and transferred from the _Case_ in your Safety Vault. When Safety Vault users run the _Transfer PQCs to Quality_ action on the _Case_ record in their Safety Vault, Quality Vault creates a _Complaint Intake_ record for each _Case Assessment_ record that has been flagged via the _Potential PQC_ field as containing a PQC. Quality Vault can also create a single _Complaint Intake_ for multiple _Case Assessments_ for a single _Product_ or a _Combination Product_ and store the associated data on a _Safety Case Assessment_ record in Quality Vault.

Creating a _Complaint Intake_ through this connection also creates a _Reported Product_ record in the Quality Vault for each _Product_ associated with the respective _Case Assessment_ records. When available, the _Reported Product_ associated with the generated _Complaint Intake_ will indicate the _Product Family_ and _Product Variant_ and the _Combination Product_ and _Product Constituent_ information.

Once Vault creates the _Complaint Intake_ record in the Quality Vault, Vault sends the _Complaint Intake_ ID back to the Safety Vault, and Quality Vault users can begin the investigation and triage process to determine whether a _Complaint_ record is needed. If follow-up _Cases_ are created for a PQC, Vault also creates subsequent _Related Complaint Intake_ records in the Quality Vault and associates them with the original _Complaint Intake_. The Quality Vault also automatically populates the _Type of Complaint Intake_ field on the _Complaint Intake_ and any applicable _Complaints_ with a value of _Follow-up_ to connect existing records and eliminate the need to manually identify and mark records as follow-ups.

## Creating Safety Inbox Items from Quality

With the Quality-Safety Connection, Vault also supports creating _Complaints_ in your Quality Vault and sending the data to your Safety Vault for investigation. If your Quality organization receives a PQC containing a potential _Adverse Event_, Quality users can send information about the _Complaint_ record using the _Transfer to Safety_ action. Vault then creates an _Inbox Item_ record in the Safety Vault for each _Complaint_ record received from a Quality Vault. The _Inbox Item_ includes an event for each reported adverse event in the _Complaint_.

If the _Complaint_ record in the Quality Vault does not include a _Case Number_, Vault creates a new _Inbox Item_ record and updates the _Complaint_ record in the Quality Vault with the Safety _Inbox Item ID_ for traceability. If the _Complaint_ record includes a _Case Number_, the newly-created _Inbox Item_ in the Safety Vault links to the original _Case_ record as a follow-up _Case_.
