# Configuring Publications

Veeva Publications is an application within the Veeva Medical suite designed to streamline the planning, authoring, review, approval, and submission of scientific literature to medical journals and congresses.

## Configuration Overview

Admins need to complete the following configuration steps to enable this application.

## Configuring the Publications Object Layouts

Navigate to **Admin > Configuration > Objects > \[Object] > Layouts** and ensure that the following standard layouts are active:

  * The _Publication Plan_ action layout for the _Plan_ object
  * The _General Publication_ action layout for the _Project_ object
  * The _Journal Submission_ action layout for the _Project_ object
  * The _Congress Submission_ action layout for the _Project_ object
  * The _Journal_ action layout for the _Target_ object
  * The _Congress_ action layout for the _Target_ object
  * The _Internal Target_ action layout for the _Target_ object
  * The _Congress Event_ action layout for the _Target Event_ object

### Configuring the Application Sections

Add the _Work Items_ and _Summary_ application sections to the _Journal Submission_, _Congress Submission_, and _General Publication_ action layouts under **Admin > Configuration > Objects > Project > Layouts**. Once enabled, the _Summary_ application section is viewable when at least one _Work Item_ is associated with a _Project_.
