# About the Medical-Quality Connection

Using the Medical-Quality Connection, organizations with both a MedInquiry and a Quality QMS Vault can exchange data. The Medical-Quality Connection transfers _Product Quality Complaint_ data from MedInquiry to Quality, which includes the relevant product, event, and reporter information required for the _Complaint Intake_ process.

## Prerequisites

To use this feature, your Admin must complete the following procedures:

  * [Establish a Vault to Vault Connection](/en/lr/53358/#Establish_Vault_to_Vault)
  * [Configure the Medical-Quality Connection](/en/lr/921788/)

## How the Medical-Quality Connection Works

When you create a new _Product Quality Complaint_ with one or more _Event Products_ records on a _Case_ record in your Medical Vault and use the _Transfer to Quality_ action, the connection creates a _Complaint Intake_ and one or more _Reported Product_ records in Quality. The _Transfer to Quality_ action also transfers any attachments from the _Event_ record in Medical to the newly created _Complaint Intake_ record. In Quality, you can perform the _Promote to Complaint_ action or manually move the record to the _Intake Assessment Complete_ state.

MedInquiry queries Quality upon successful creation of _Complaint Intake_ and all child _Reported Product_ records, and when the _Complaint Intake_ record enters the _Intake Assessment Complete_ state, and updates the corresponding _Product Quality Complaint_ record with reconciliation information based on [field mapping](/en/lr/921788/#field-rules).

When additional information or a follow-up is received in MedInquiry that relates to a _Product Quality Complaint_ previously transferred to Quality, you can either:

  * Reopen the _Case_ and create a new _Product Quality Complaint_ record by copying the existing one, or
  * Create a new _Case_ and a new _Product Quality Complaint_ record

The _Follow Up?_ field should be set to _Yes_ and _Source Case_ and _Source Event_ fields populated with the information from the initial _Product Quality Complaint_ record. Once the follow-up _Product Quality Complaint_ is transferred to Quality, Vault automatically determines whether the created _Complaint Intake_ is _New_ or a _Follow-Up_ and sets the _Intake Type_ accordingly, based on the _Source Event_ field from the transferred record. If the _Intake Type_ is _Follow-Up_, Vault creates a _Related Complaint Intake_ relationship. Vault does not transfer the follow up record if the originating _Product Quality Complaint_ was not previously transferred to Quality.
